As the rewarded proposals in this competition for a new residential area in Nässjö consisted of neo-modernistic designs with little connection to their surroundings we took our starting point in the traditional brick architecture of Nässjö and the context of the site.
SITUATION
First came the block. A continuation of the urban fabric of Nässjö, with its scale and direction. When meeting the city park this block is eroded, light and vegetation breaks into it and creates a new typology; the urban park. The proposal is sprung out of its context, its unique setting in the borderland between city and park. Here the qualities of its surroundings are fused.
MATERIALITY
The houses in the Urban Park are clad with brick; a material that can be found in numerous places around Nässjö and in many of the neighboring facades. By variations in finish and colors of the bricks the heavy volumes are broken up. Different ground treatments are laid out in the yard as a patchwork. The different zones offer everything from dazzling vegetation to playgrounds. Walkways connect all entrances with the street.
CONSTRUCTION
The main goal was to create cost efficient apartments as well as a high quality housing environment. The proposal is designed with a cc 2400 concrete framework. Walls are made of prefabricated concrete slabs covered with brickwork. The compactness and repetitiveness off the houses entails cost-efficiency and sustainability.
APARTMENTS
20% of the apartments have their own patio, the remaining have one or two balconies with generous vegetation. Everyone should be able to grow their own tree! To make the compact apartments feel more spacious sightlines stretches through their whole length.

Even though they have a flat on the third floor they have the opportunity to do what they like most; gardening. They have recently been abroad and brought with them new seeds for their dazzling oasis. Past midday it gets too hot for labor and the couple takes a nap in the bedroom. They open the door to their balcony. There is a cherry tree in bloom, soon they will sit in its shadow watching kids playing in the ya
