We call this project Connectivity, a suitable name for a house that connects two existing buildings, two families and three generations creating a physical and social link.

The project was initiated during spring 2003. The Olsson family, friends of the architects, wanted to investigate how they could improve there residential situation. They needed more space and wanted a closer relationship with there grandparents with whom they where already neighbors.

During the process that followed the idea of connecting the two families existing houses came up. A third common building was to create a link between the families.

The exterior of the house is made up of three horizontal layers each with a connection to the rather messy site. Previously spread out firewood is stored on the walls of the first floor and corrugated steel lying around becomes the façade of the second floor. A vegetable garden is moved up on the roof creating a leafy terrace.

The new building contains a common entrance, a kitchen and a master bedroom for the younger family. As time goes by plans are that the houses should be able to adapt to changing configurations of the families, hopefully supporting generations of Olssons to come
