On the corner of Gibraltarvallen and Engdahlsgatan in Gothenburg, we propose a building with strict architecture and with a frame and façade entirely in wood. This material is used in the entire building in different ways and with different treatments, such as in the open ground floor with a clearly presented wooden frame with exposed pillars and beams. The fully open ground floor allows a flexible program with different functions and activities, visible through the glass sections that create sight lines straight through the building. The façade is clad in wooden panels, and the facade details and rails are made of ribbed wood. The sockets are given a detailed design with, for example, milled patterns in the wood and with a greater detail around the entrances. The wooden panels are made from renewable raw materials and are manufactured in an energy-efficient process with minimal environmental impact. The material include as a natural part of its cycle that carbon dioxide binds throughout its life. By certified Svanen, it’s guaranteed a high level of the input material, that the building achieves with the energy efficiency requirements and a good indoor environment. Above the ground floor there are residential apartments in different sizes. The apartments are planned around the large glass pieces, which are also found in the smaller apartments.
