The House of Fairy Tales must be a fairy tale itself. Where children, adults, everyone can be part of the stories that Hans Christian Andersen wrote. It is meant to be a place where fantasy and reality come together, where the past meets the present and where the indoors and outdoors merge into one. It will become a worldwide landmark as well as a public space to enjoy for the citizens of Odense. Five elements perforate the ground on the museum site; four boxes and a spiral. These elements create a connection between the museum facilities underground and Lotze’s Garden but most importantly between the visitor and the imagination of HC Andersen. The spiral staircase is the inviting entrance to the museum, here visitors of the museum mix with locals soaking up the sun on the south west slope created by the spiral. All can catch a glimpse of the exhibitions through the windows along the ramp. Each one of the boxes has a different materiality that relates to a specific fairy tale or to Hans Christian Andersen himself.
