PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The brief for the competition was to design a structure to cover and protect two large stones that lay adjacent to the church and were of particular significance to the site.

Our strategy was to create a 'Halo' for them. A protective structure to hover above the rocks and protect them but at the same time be almost non-existent, therefore maintaining the rocks and church as the significant feature of the site.

We also wanted to create a structure that would be easy to construct with minimum inpact on the immediate surroundings and could also be taken away at a later date if needed.

Our solution was a transparent inflatable 'bubble' that would be supported by air pressure and not a formal structure. It would appear almost as if it were not there but at the same time protect the rocks and maintain a visual access to them even during the hours when the structure was closed for visiting
